About Bingley
During the late 1700’s the market town of Bingley was transformed by the Industrial Revolution. Although the market stalls would remain, Bingley was to become a very prosperous town due to the influx of people moving to the area to work in the woollen and worsted mills, most of which were set up close to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal to allow for the cost-effective transportation of goods in and out of the town.
Following the boom years during which time several mill owners made their fortune, Bingley has had a less than remarkable impact on the local area, and in some respects has now become quite a sleepy town whereby most people who want to have a day out will usually travel to Leeds or Bradford on the train.
Beckfoot school is now the most prominent school in the area, and there are usually a couple of events held annually in Myrtle Park, in particular Bingley Music Live has attracted some large names from the world of pop including The Happy Mondays, Scouting for Girls and The Charlatans.
